Bo-Kaap and Slave Lodge The beginning of South Africa. This area forms a very important part of Cape Town’s early history. The area in which residents settled (just outside the city) on the slopes of Signal Hill became known at the Bo-Kaap (the name refers to the upper slopes of the City). District Six and District Six Museum The harsh realities of Apartheid District Six is one of the best examples in South Africa where people of colour where people were driven off the land. The District Six Museum captures the tragedy of this period in the country’s history.
Trojan Horse and the Cape Flats The people’s struggle against Apartheid. The Cape Flats was the focal point for political struggle in the Cape and compliments the Robben Island struggle for freedom. During the height of the community’s resistance white South African police hid in empty boxes on the back of an unmarked truck while slowly cruising in the direction of protestors. At the appointed time the sign was given and policemen emerged from the boxes and started mowing down unarmed people with live ammunition. Meet the people and visit the site.
